Bold wallpaper for the children's room

Bold wallpaper is usually interpreted as dark and hard-edged: black, bright red, oversized figures. We do it differently, and that's a choice, not a limitation.

Our bold designs are either graphic or natural: blocks, checks, retro vans, dinosaurs and jungle, in beige, blue, green and brown. They give the room character without making it feel busy.

That makes a difference in the long run. A room where children play and build already has enough going on.

What we mean by bold

We don't stock black, bright red or primary colour combinations. They look good in a photo but rarely in a real room, especially not a small one.

What we do instead is create contrast through shape rather than colour. A block pattern in cocoa gives a room character without making the wall shout. That's bold, but in a way you'll still be happy to look at in five years.

Graphic or themed

Blocks and checks add structure without a theme. They work especially well above a desk or a building corner, and they never look childish.

Retro vans, dinosaurs and jungle designs do have a theme. That's more fun in the short term, but it has a shorter shelf life. Choose it deliberately, and preferably on just one wall.

Which colours work

Beige and cocoa are our most popular shades for these designs. They combine well with wood and with almost any furniture added later.

Blue works, as long as it's muted. Bright blue quickly feels overwhelming in a small room.

Green is the most underrated. Sage green alongside a block pattern feels calm and grown-up at the same time.

You'll find the full range for this room at boys' room wallpaper.

What age is it suitable for

The graphic designs work from newborn to twelve. Blocks and checks have no age limit.

The themed designs, so dinosaurs and vans, work best between roughly three and eight years old. After that, a child usually wants something more neutral, and re-papering is more expensive than a new duvet cover.

If you want to paper once and be done, take a look at striped wallpaper for the children's room. It's the longest-lasting design we stock.

Looking for something for the very youngest? You'll find that at boy's nursery wallpaper. The wider range for the children's room is at children's room wallpaper.

Styling tips

One feature wall is enough
Bold wallpaper works best on a single wall, not all the way round. Choose the wall behind the bed or chest of drawers. That automatically becomes the focal point. Keep the other three walls plain, in a light shade picked up from the wallpaper. This stops the room from looking too busy. In narrow rooms, the short wall works best, as it draws the eye and makes the room feel visually wider.

Keep the rest calm
Let the wallpaper do the work. Choose large plain surfaces and keep extra prints or busy accessories to a minimum. A few strong pieces work better than lots of small details. This keeps everything balanced and lets the wallpaper truly stand out.

Combine with panelling
Bold wallpaper above white or wooden panelling works surprisingly well. The panelling underneath protects the wall from little feet and toys, and gives the wallpaper above it a clear frame. Our four fixed panelling heights (120, 140, 160 or 180 cm) all fit wallpaper that's 270 cm high. For younger children, 120 or 140 cm works nicely, while 160 cm suits older children. Dark wood pairs best with the green dinosaur print or the beige jungle safari print.

Frequently asked questions

How many rolls do I need for a boy's room?
One roll consists of 2 drops, each 50 cm wide and 270 cm high, so it covers 100 cm of wall width. Measure the width of your wall, divide by 100, round up, and allow 10 cm extra since walls are rarely perfectly straight. You'll find a roll calculator on every product page.
Why don't you offer black or bright colours?
Those tend to work better in a photo than in a real room, especially a small one. We look for contrast in shape rather than in colour.
Which bold pattern lasts the longest?
Blocks and diamonds. They don't have a specific theme, so they never start to feel childish.
Can I use a dinosaur or vehicle pattern across the whole room?
You can, but we'd suggest keeping it to one wall. A themed pattern can quickly feel overwhelming across all four walls.
Can I order a sample?
Yes, for every design, for €3.50. You'll get a piece of the real wallpaper, so you can check the colour and texture at home.
How quickly will my order be shipped?
We ship within 1 to 3 working days. Delivery within the Netherlands is free.
Can I return my order?
Every roll is printed specially for your order, so it can't be returned. If you're not sure, order a sample first for €3.50.
