Why dusty pink and not pink

Bright pink has a shelf life. It's bold, it clashes with a lot of furniture, and by around age seven almost every child wants rid of it.

Dusty pink behaves differently, because it has grey and beige in it. It reads almost like a neutral shade. That's why it still works when the bedding changes, when a desk gets added, and when the room becomes a teenage bedroom five years from now.

That's also why we don't stock bright pink.

Which rooms it works in

Dusty pink is warm, so it works especially well in a north-facing room. Where white turns cool and grey turns gloomy, dusty pink stays friendly.

In a room with a lot of sun it can lean towards peach. Hang a sample first, because you won't see that difference in any photo.

It's not just a girls' room colour. In a neutral nursery, beige with a dusty pink undertone works as the softest version of neutral.

Flowers, stripes or bows

Stripes do the opposite: they add structure without introducing a subject, and they make a low room look taller.

Combining dusty pink

With oak and rattan, dusty pink is almost a given. With white it turns fresher, with sand it turns warmer.

What we'd avoid is pairing dusty pink with a second bold colour. In a children's room, usually the smallest space in the house, that quickly turns busy. Keep the second colour in the textiles.
